More is More

More is More; 36×36 oil on newspaper covered canvas. Teresa Haag. 2026

I used to be a plant killer, but I'm not anymore.

Now, all my plants have names.

Some given by me, but most of them by my youngest son, Ryan.

Uncle Cheddar, Darwin, Jeff…to name a few.

Back when I was a plant killer, I wasn't trying to be one.

Someone would gift me a plant, and I'd think…”this is the one I'll keep alive”.

And I'd do ok for a bit.

But the ending was always the same.

Death by thirst.

Things changed a couple of years ago, though.

And while I don't have a perfect plant record…

Sadly, I left one of my oldest plants out overnight this spring and it froze to death…

I haven't lost a plant to thirst in a while.

Teresa Haag

I'm a gritty urban landscape painter.

My work is messy, and imperfect...just like me.

I work in oil on top of newspaper covered canvas because of the texture, depth, and chatter the newspaper creates below the surface.

I paint what I see, without any prettification.

It is what it is, and it’s perfect that way.

The running themes in my work are resilience, grit, and self-determination.

It doesn’t matter the hand we are dealt, it’s what we decide to do with it.
