Here's the thing.
It doesn't matter how far away I'm parked, how many stairs I have to climb, or how many bags there are.
The groceries are getting carried in in exactly one trip.

I lived in an apartment above a liquor store my grandfather owned when I was little.
I don't remember much about it.
But I know there was a fire escape outside of window on the back wall.
My mom had a tomato plant out there.
And it's where we would cool off in the evening.
I have memories about it, but I can't tell if they are my memories or things I've been told by others.

I took a trip to Acadia this past September with a group of women I adore.
They got us tickets to see the sunrise at the top of the park one of the mornings we were there.
I thought that I've seen sunrises before.
But none were like this.
That millisecond when the sun breaks through the horizon...there are just no words.
I'm going to take that one with me forever.

My favorite time of year is fall.
Every year I tell myself to slow down and enjoy it before it's gone.
And every year I feel like I missed it.

My dad had an old green mustang in the garage for years.
It was just there, collecting dust and rust, and became a holder of frisbees, rackets, and cardboard boxes filled with who knows what...like a junk drawer.
Then one day my dad sold it.
And got really mad when he saw that I had scratched my name into the side.

Twinkle lights are magic.
You can’t be around them and not feel it.

A friend and I took a trip to NYC at Christmas time last year. I'm pretty sure we covered the entire city. We walked by a Christmas Tree lot on a street corner while we were heading back to the train and followed a couple 10 blocks while they carried their tree back to their apartment. And, we could barely keep up with them.

So, I know that this gets kicked around a lot…
but I really did have the rule that I could be out with my friends until the street lights came on.
It was actually more like, "Don't come home until the street lights come on".
No phones. No check ins.
All the kids in the neighborhood out doing neighborhood kid things.

I used to order food based on what other people were ordering.
There was definitely a "right thing" to order, and I was going to make sure I nailed it by polling every single person at the table before locking in.

I'm not afraid of the dark.
Although I used to have this thing that if I didn't turn on the bathroom light within 3 seconds that something would come out of the toilet and get me.
Specifically a witch.
A witch just flying out of the toilet.
A toilet witch,
I don't know.
There is comfort in having a light on though.

I think that a true sign of a bestie is when you can be the messiest version of yourself and know with your whole heart that they aren’t going anywhere.

I get a lot done before the sun comes up.
My mind is the clearest then.
But it doesn't stay that way.

I can eat an impressive amount of lobster.
Owen recently told me that lobster used to be so abundant in New England that it was used to feed prisoners so often that they used to complain.
Bananas!

Sunflowers are hardcore.
They grow to be like 10 feet tall in the most random places without much tending.
All while spreading sunshine to everyone around.

Okay, so you know how some people overshare a little?
I overshare like it's my full-time job.
I'll be talking, fully aware that my brain is yelling "stop talking," but the floodgates are already wide open.
And then later, of course, I replay the whole thing in my head like it's a film, promising myself I'll never do that again.
So I swing the other way.
Quiet.
Listening only, because that feels safer than letting the filter slip.
There's never a middle ground.

I think they are called doom piles. Random things that are left out and stacked in a pile with a promise to take care of them later. I have doom piles. Doom drawers. And sometimes, when I'm rushed for time, and I have company coming…doom closets. I find the most magical and unexpected things in them when eventually I circle back…sometime years later…and take care of them.

I convinced my kids to go with me to a Fall Festival in Jim Thorpe a couple months ago. The downtown area was so cute and festive…but what I loved most was exploring all tiny side streets and alleys. They were good sports, and I think actually liked that the streets weren't so crowded.

Farmer's Markets pop up in the craziest places.
Ran across this one first thing in the morning on my way out of Baltimore earlier this year.
People are so resourceful.

So, the truth is, I named this one and then forgot why I named it this.
What I should have done was write down some notes about why I decided to call it quick fix.
Instead, I just assumed I would remember.
And then, I moved onto the next thing.

I'm better at wandering than seeking.
When I go into a store with nothing in mind, I find all the things.
When I take the side quest on a hike I am always delighted with what I discover.
No pressure.
Just a sense of adventure.
This view was tucked away on a hidden little street at the bottom of a hill that I stumbled upon while winding my way up the coast.

Are you a home from work person
Or a work from home person?
I'm a home from work person.
I work from home right now...my studio is in my basement.
And while I'm grateful for what I have...I miss being in the community.
And having a place to go to each day to create that is far away from laundry and dishes.

I heard something recently that I'll never be able to un-know.
Are you ready for it?
The next time you lie in the grass on a summer night and look up a the stars...think for a moment that the only thing that is keeping you glued to the grass is gravity.
The sky suddenly flips from being above you to being this endless, open drop. One teeny little gap in gravity will have you just falling into the sky.
You're welcome.
Let's discuss. :)

New house.
New traditions.
New Christmas Tree spot.
I actually don’t mind change.
I like the possibility that comes with it.
