Sandra Sedmak Engel has been workings in encaustics for over 10 years, and has been teaching for 7. These intimate workshops only happen twice a year, and this November she is bringing it back to Phoenixville! This 2 day class teaches all the basics about painting with beeswax, as well as a few tips and tricks. We'll cover everything from making mediums and mixing paints, to technique, tools and safety. On Day 1, participants will work together on demo boards to learn the basics. On Day 2, students will have to opportunity to explore the medium more independently, with Sandra to guide the process.
"Until about 10 years ago, I considered myself primarily an oil painter-a large degree of my work is figurative, but also branches out into abstract landscapes. Then I discovered my true love-encaustic painting-creating images with melted beeswax and pigment. The process is so tactile and physical that I find it incredibly satisfying. And the images take on a translucent, dreamy quality I've never been able to achieve with other mediums." -sse
